Browser Notifications
hejGuide can send you desktop notifications for new messages, bookings, and other important events — even when you're working in another tab. This uses your browser's built-in notification system and requires no additional software.
How It Works
When browser notifications are enabled, hejGuide checks for new events every 30 seconds. If something happens while you're not looking at the dashboard tab, a notification pops up on your screen. Click it to jump straight to the relevant page.
You'll receive notifications for:
- New guest messages — when a guest sends you a chat message
- New bookings — when a reservation is created
- Booking changes — when an existing booking is modified
TIP
When the dashboard tab is active, you'll see an in-app notification instead of a desktop popup.

Still Not Working?
If you've allowed notifications but they're not appearing:
- Check your operating system settings — on macOS, go to System Settings → Notifications and make sure your browser is allowed to send notifications. On Windows, check Settings → System → Notifications.
- Check Do Not Disturb — notifications are silenced when Do Not Disturb or Focus mode is active.
- Try reloading — after changing permissions, reload the dashboard page.
Notification Preferences
You can control exactly which types of notifications you receive without disabling browser notifications entirely:
- Go to Profile → Notifications (
/profile/notifications). - Find the Push Notifications section.
- Toggle individual notification types on or off:
- New messages -- When a guest sends you a message.
- New bookings -- When a new reservation is made.
- Booking requests -- When a guest requests or inquires about a booking.
- Booking changes -- When an existing booking is modified.
- Cancellations -- When a booking is cancelled.
- Blocked dates -- When dates are blocked or unblocked.
- Payments -- When a guest pays online.
- New reviews -- When a guest leaves a review.
- Check-ins -- When a guest completes check-in.
- Product orders -- When a guest orders an extra.
- Housekeeping issues -- When a housekeeping issue is reported.
- Task assignments -- When a task is assigned to you.
Notification status indicator
Your account page shows the current notification status:
- Enabled -- You will receive notifications when the tab is in the background.
- Blocked -- Notifications are blocked by your browser. Click the lock icon in your browser's address bar to allow them.
- Enable button -- Notifications have not been set up yet. Click the button to request permission.
Team member notifications
If you are a team member (co-host, cleaner, manager), you receive push notifications only for modules you have access to. For example, a cleaner with Housekeeping access will receive cleaning task notifications but not booking or message notifications.
Disabling Notifications
Follow the same steps for your browser above, but change the setting to Block or Deny instead of Allow.
