Custom domain
Your direct-booking website normally lives on a hejGuide address like direct.hejguide.com/your-cottage. With a custom domain it lives on your own web address instead — book.yourdomain.com, or the domain itself. This works for a single accommodation site and for a brand site (collection) with several accommodations.
How it works
Enter your domain in the Custom domain card (on the Website page for a brand site, or on a listing's booking-site editor) and save. We recommend a subdomain such as
book.yourdomain.comorstay.yourdomain.com.Add a CNAME record at your DNS provider. The card shows the exact record, for example:
CNAME book.yourdomain.com → direct.hejguide.comYou add this wherever you manage your domain's DNS — Cloudflare, GoDaddy, TransIP, one.com, and so on.
Click "Check & activate". We look up your DNS and show exactly what we find: the CNAME, the IP addresses, and which nameservers your domain uses. When everything points our way, we connect the domain and request an HTTPS certificate automatically — the first certificate is usually ready within a minute or two.
Once active, the card shows a green Active badge with a link to your site. Guests who open your domain see your site with a valid HTTPS lock — nothing else to configure.
Using Cloudflare?
Cloudflare can proxy your record (the orange cloud ☁️). While the proxy is on, the outside world sees Cloudflare's addresses instead of ours, and our certificate check can't complete.
Set the CNAME record to "DNS only" (grey cloud) in the Cloudflare dashboard, wait a minute, and run Check & activate again. Our checker detects a proxied record and will tell you when this is the issue.
Root domains (no "www")
A root domain like yourdomain.com technically can't have a CNAME record. Most modern DNS providers solve this with CNAME-flattening (Cloudflare does this automatically) or an ALIAS/ANAME record — both are fine, our check recognises them. If your provider supports neither, use a subdomain like www or book instead.
DNS changes take a moment
New DNS records can take anywhere from a minute to an hour to become visible (occasionally longer, depending on your provider). If the check fails right after you added the record, wait a bit and try again — the card tells you exactly which part isn't resolving yet.
Disconnecting a domain
An active domain is locked against accidental edits. To remove it, click Disconnect and type the domain name to confirm. Your site immediately stops being served on that address (the hejGuide address keeps working), and you can connect a different domain afterwards.
Good to know
- A domain can be connected to one site at a time — either a brand site or a single accommodation site.
- Your hejGuide address keeps working alongside the custom domain; search engines are told the custom domain is the main one.
- Bookings, payments and the guest chat work identically on your own domain.
